Bringing Home Your Kitty
Bringing Home Your Kitty
Best Tips:
- When bringing your new family member home, create a separate space for them. Start them in one room that can be closed. Provide them with food, water, a litter box, and some comfy places to sleep or hide. Cats are territorial, so being in a new space can be stressful for them.
- Open up the carrier and let the kitty come out on their own. After you have put them in their new space, leave the room! Give them some time to explore on their own.
- Come back later and quietly sit on the floor, let them come to you. Talk calmly to your kitty and read their body language. Some cats are friendly right away and want attention, others may need you to be more patient.
- Spend time with your new friend while they eat. Using food to bond can be a very helpful tool in building trust. Sit on the floor and let them come to you.
