Foster
Fostering Saves Lives
As a foster based rescue, we are always searching for more foster homes. The more foster homes, the more kitties we can help.
Fostering provides our cats an opportunity to get the individual love and attention that they need to thrive! We get a true picture of a cat’s personality which is the best opportunity to helping them find their furever home!
Cocoa Kitties will support you through every step of your fostering journey, starting with pairing you with the right foster kitten(s). You will find fostering is truly a rewarding experience!
We need foster homes for all types of kitties:
- Senior Kitties
- Adult Kitties
- Kittens
- Bonded Pairs
- Moms & Kittens
- Bottle Babies
- Orphaned Litters
- Kitties with Medical Needs
You will be asked for Personal references and a Vet reference. Please let these references know we will be calling so that we can move through this process quickly. We can not move forward without these references.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I foster?
Fostering provides a safe place for kitties while we find them forever homes. Fosters provide valuable information about the kitty so we can find the right forever home for them.
What kind of kitties need fostering?
Does it cost anything to foster?
Cocoa Kitties covers all medical bills. Vet visits must be approved and scheduled by Cocoa Kitties.
Can I foster a kitty to see if it is a good match for my family to adopt?
Foster homes are intended to be temporary, transitional homes between a kitty’s past and their future forever family. If you’re hoping to find a permanent family member, then adoption, rather than fostering, is for you. A “trial adoption” is really just an adoption and will be treated as such. As a foster you are caring for a kitty that belongs to the rescue. Knowing that we have you as a foster helps us to set our goals for our lifesaving efforts.
Is it hard to say goodbye when they get adopted?
It’s always a little sad to say goodbye but knowing you are sending the kitty to their forever happiness is definitely a silver lining. The next kitty who needs saving is waiting for you too.
What if I fall in love with my foster kitty?
This definitely happens sometimes to foster parents, whether it’s their first time fostering or their fiftieth time fostering. Foster parents love all of their foster kitties, but sometimes a kitty just gets right into your heart in a very particular way and you can’t imagine life without them. If you end up in this position, you’ll want to talk right away with the rescue. Since the cat belongs to the organization, you won’t automatically get to keep the kitty, we will need to follow normal adoption protocol.
What if I need to go out of town?
We can set up kitty sitting for you. There are always volunteers who will help by kitty sitting. This is also another volunteer opportunity, if fostering is too much maybe you want to be a kitty sitter.
Can I choose my foster kitty?
We regularly post the kitties that need fosters in our Facebook group and if you see one that is a good match for you just let us know.
